Doppelbock Session: Ayinger Celebrator

January 4th, 2008 – 6:45 pm

Let me be the first second to admit it: I’ve fallen off the beer blogging bandwagon. I’ve been missing Session deadlines left and right. Heck, the last time I participated was way back in August. Why the lack of posts?
I guess I had just gotten a bit bored with my pedestrian […]

Today, the third Tuesday of October, is Sticke Day. So take a moment to educate yourself about this rare style of beer, courtesy of the German Beer Institute (skip down if you find this sort of thing boring, otherwise, it’s time to geek out!):
Twice a year, […]

Hacker-Pschorr Hefe Weisse

I think I’ve found a new favorite hefeweizen. I took a bottle up with me when I went camping a few weeks ago. Hacker-Pschorr is 5.5% alcohol by volume, it pours a cloudy honey-amber color. Light and fruity aromas. Wheaty, of course, with faint smells of banana. Lots of bubbles […]

Spaten Optimator

Filed as: Lager, German, Bock, Beer

Like I mentioned last week, Spaten Optimator wins big points in the cool name department. It ranks higher in alcohol content as well, with 7.2% as opposed to the Pils 5%. Both are available in 16.9 oz. sizes at Gelson’s for $2.59. Strangely enough, they don’t sell the Pils in 12 oz […]

Alaskan Amber

Bought a single 12 oz bottle on a whim one evening for about $1.69. I’ve always seen it sitting there on the shelf at Ralph’s, but for some reason I had never tried it before. Boy was I missing out. The verdict on Alaskan Amber: DEE-licious.
The beer pours a deep mahogany color. […]

Spaten Pils

March 30th, 2007 – 10:25 am
Filed as: Lager, German, Pilsner, Beer

Although the name isn’t as awesome, I’d say Pils has a leg up on it’s cousin Optimator. Both can be found in 16.9 oz. bottles at Gelson’s for $2.59.
Spaten (which is German for ’spade’) is brewed in Munich by the same people who make Franziskaner. Can’t make it to Munich for a tour […]
