Eureka! Amber

Eureka! Amber

Let this be a lesson to you. When a beer is on sale for $4.30 for a six-pack, something is wrong. Yes, this beer was on sale for 75 cents a pop at Pavillions. I should have judged from the lame cartoony label and the terrible tagline across the bottom, “Traditionally Brewed Premium Ale,” but no, I decided not to judge the book by its cover.

Most of the time, when things have exclamation points behind them, I love them. Two good examples are Jeopardy! and Reno 911! But Eureka really dulls the whole impact of the exclamation point, if you catch my drift.

The beer started out alright, dark brown with an off-white creamy head and decent lacing. But the smell was off, a bit musty. Eureka is tart, but not in an appealing way. Tart in a metallic sort of way. The texture is alright, and the creamy head adds to the character, but overall, the taste was way off.

Unfortunately, I bought one of their Honey Weiss beers too. I don’t know if I even want to try it. Maybe the same day I finish those Killian’s that have been taking up space in the back of the fridge. Meh.
