Bought a single 12 oz bottle on a whim one evening for about $1.69. I’ve always seen it sitting there on the shelf at Ralph’s, but for some reason I had never tried it before. Boy was I missing out. The verdict on Alaskan Amber: DEE-licious.
The beer pours a deep mahogany color. Off-white fizzy head that is mostly diminishing. It has a very unique aroma, sweet and hoppy, with a hint of cherry. With such a sweet sugary aroma, I didn’t expect the taste to match the smell as much as it did.
I didn’t know I liked beer that tastes this sweet. The cherries were waiting for me up front, with a hint of amaretto backing them up. This stuff goes down easy, with a slightly malty aftertaste. Alaskan’s got a light body, the beer is a bit thin, but that can be easily forgiven.
After such a great impression, Alaskan Amber really stuck in my head. Just a couple days ago, I realized they have this on tap at FO. Highly recommended. You will want to have more than one.

How do you go about ordering Alaskan Amber from the factory or from a distributer. We do not have it in Leesville Louisiana and i want to buy some. I recently purchased a case in Seattle Washington and brought it home in my baggage. Please offer any information you can on this matter. Jack
Jack, I think your best bet is to contact the brewery. Or you could try ordering from an online beer retailer like LiquidSolutions.com
Jack: try bevmo.com – they always have Alaskan Amber and it is my favorite right behind good ‘ol Fat Tire.

Just got back from my first trip to alaska, and already miss it. truly a great brew. Is it possible to find it in the midwest. Live in St. Louis and would love to order are find a supplier here. As everybody knows, we only have that new foriegn beer that has been made here forever.
The Disch
Disch, you probably just aren’t looking in the right places! check with http://stlhops.com/ – it seems like a great resource for finding Bud alternatives in St. Louis.
Liquidsolutions.biz might be your best bet if none of the fine beer stores in your area don’t carry Alaskan.
Best,
Dave
